Global dance music phenomenon Jax Jones unleashing electrifying new single, “Bad Boys,” a high-octane collaboration featuring the Pop-distrupting Rebecca Black and co-production from staple of London club culture, sooyeon (formerly Oh Annie Oh) via Eastern Margins/Astralwerks. Listen HERE. Jax been teasing this track at sets at some of the biggest superclubs and renowned festivals from Pacha, Ibiza to Fuji Rock, Japan, certifying it as a club anthem for 2025.
Since uprooting his life to Thailand’s capital at the end of 2023, Jax Jones has been exploring a new area of the world, its diverse musical slate, as well as the innermost aspects of his own identity. Soaking in the nocturnal megacity’s beautiful chaos and joyous mania, travelling more of Asia and meeting more people of a similar mixed upbringing along the way, Jones has embarked on a wild journey of discovery where the sounds and cultures of the ESEA regions have come to inform this new direction that embraces the redline ethos of the bubbling far East and the diasporic West underground scenes. A term coined by label Eastern Margins, redline is a sound that pushes its limits and refers to the red level meters on the DJ deck – its an audio encapsulation of the intense, faster and harder, non-corforming energy of these major far East cities.
Jax Jones says, “I was thinking about how streaming platforms, using AI – are so good at creating the ‘perfect playlist’ but it encouraged me to become more of an active listener. I wanted to research new music and immerse in sub-genres myself, like budots coming out of the Philippines, rather than it being done for me. This is organic discovery via friends or actively engaging in the musical community. I’ve been fully locked in on this journey of discovery which has informed this harder, more faster sound and I hope it engages listeners from London to Bangkok!”
This new era of music commences with the exhilarating “Bad Boys” where Jax seamlessly pairs the pop sheen of LA’s Rebecca Black with Korean-born, London-based sooyeon’s infectious vitality and playful prowess, to deliver the perfect paradox – a banger the bridges the East and West with an underground edge.
Singer-songwriter, DJ, and cult-followed queer icon Rebecca Black who has just released her latest project SALVATION, is an artist who defines her own path. An undisputed icon of underground music, fashion, and queer art scenes, Rebecca Black’s wide-ranging creative output has been unstoppable making her a perfect fit for the energetic vibe of “Bad Boys.” sooyeon has become synonymous with high energy DJ sets and sound that express her playful persona with tonnes of attitude, seamlessly fusing curated club reworks, thumping kicks and sub-bass dives.
“This is an unreal collaboration I did not have on my 2025 bingo card! It’s such a fun and addictive track, I’m obsessed,“ says sooyeon.
Alongside Astralwerks, “Bad Boys” is released via Eastern Margins, a pioneering label dedicated to showcasing the vibrant and diverse sounds of East and Southeast Asian underground music. They have taken over the 23 Platform stage at Glastonbury with Japanese trance masters Minna-no-kimochi, brought the Philippines’ DJ Love and the Budots movement to viral attention as well as hosted the first-of-its-kind festival in London, Margins United. Quickly becoming a vital platform out of London for emerging artists from all of East and Southeast Asia, fostering a community that celebrates creativity and cultural exchange, their commitment to pushing boundaries and challenging conventions perfectly align with Jax Jones’ approach to local meets global.
“This link-up with Jax Jones is a full circle moment, says Eastern Margins. “The essence of Eastern Margins is celebrating maximalist subculture from East & South-East Asia. Jax Jones has been doing that throughout his career, from the UK’s rich dance music tapestry. Makina to Manyao, Manchester to Malaysia – we both draw from the same sonic mobius strip of raw, fast & bouncy music. This new era is the confluence of those parallel influences. The dots are well and truly joined.“
The London-born, Malaysian-Turkish, Jax Jones (real name Timucin “Timz” Lam), is a global-facing DJ and hitmaking producer with over 65 platinum singles worldwide, 9 billion streams and 60 million single sales.
