A classic rock legend is set to release a lost album from nearly 50 years ago.
Neil Young announced Friday that “Oceanside Countryside,” a previously unissued album recorded between May and December 1977, will be out Feb. 14. The 10-song collection, including collaborations with Levon Helm, will be part of Young’s Analog Originals series.
“This analog original album was recorded in 1977 and unreleased,” Young said. “These songs are the original mixes done at the time of the recordings in the order I planned for the album. I sang the vocals and played the instruments on Oceanside (Side A) in Florida at Triad studios and Malibu at Indigo studio. I sang the vocals and recorded with my great band of friends, Ben Keith, Joe Osborn, Karl T. Himmel, and Rufus Thibodeaux at Crazy Mama’s in Nashville on Countryside (Side B).
Young, 79, is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame musician known for his work with Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, plus solo projects featuring hits like “Harvest Moon,” “Heart of Gold,” “Rockin’ in the Free World” and “Old Man.” He most recently performed in Upstate New York at Farm Aid 2024 in September.
