John Keating, longtime Detroit sports broadcaster, to retire after Detroit Red Wings season

Longtime local TV sports anchor John Keating is wrapping things up when the Detroit Red Wings’ season is done.

Keating, an anchor and host with FanDuel Sports Network Detroit, announced the news Friday on via the social media platform X: “Hey, gang. A bit of personal news here. I’ve decided to retire from TV at the end of this Red Wings season.”

The Red Wings have their final game of the season on April 17, and the final home game on April 14.

Keating has spent 45 years in broadcasting, including stops in Denver and Grand Rapids.

Keating, who turns 68 in January, explained his reason: “It’s a decision I reached in the middle of the Tigers season this past July. A couple of years ago, I was out for a ginger ale with my boss, Jeff Byle, who is a longtime pal and he graciously told me at the time, “You tell us when you want to be done. You’ve earned that.”
